The Stars Of Basketball

It is probably safe to say that when Lebron James decides to retire that he will have Hall of Fame credentials. Coming out of high school, he was already annointed the savior of the NBA. With ratings decreasing and tickets sales doing the same, the NBA needed a new poster boy. To the people in charge of marketing in the NBA, Lebron had it all. He was young, athletic, good looking and most of all, very talented. Lebron was drafted number one overall by his hometown Cavaliers and quickly became King James. The NBA was his kingdom and all other players, retired or playing, were to bow down to the king. Not everyone was ready to name a new king in the NBA. There were fans that argued that there was already a king in the NBA, Kobe Bryant, and that Lebron had prove his worthiness on the court. But poor Kobe Bryant was actually left out of most conversations and the Lebron machine went after another more legendary player. Lebron fans and the media firestorm that followed him started comparing him to the greatest ever, Michael Jordan. With every great game, every playoff win the comparisons would intensify. Lebron was doing his part, so maybe he was the greatest ever. Then came the “decision” that brought Lebron’s popularity to a screeching halt. His move to Miami changed how many fans viewed him. No longer was he the most popular player in the NBA, no longer was he as good as MJ. He still put up great numbers and still no one could guard him, so maybe he was still the best. MJ or Lebron, Lebron or MJ? That is a question that will plague the NBA for years to come. The truth be told, comparisons need to stop now. Lebron is no Michael Jordan and this is why. Michael Jordan and Lebron James are two different players. Lebron is a physical player and a very good player. Jordan was a scorer, a great defender and an even better competitor. Jordan guarded the best player on the opposing team almost every game. He could drop 50 points on you on any given night and still have enough energy to pick your pocket 5 or 6 times. Lebron is considered a good defender because he is big, Jordan was a good defender because of his work ethic. Jordan wanted the last shot of the game, Lebron seems like he wants to get rid of it. During a game Jordan would try just a little harder than anyone else on the court to prove he was the best. Lebron already knows he is the best (because everyone told him he was). Finally, Jordan won 6 championships with Scottie Pippen and bunch of bench players. Lebron left his hometown so he could team up with two other star players and still managed to come up short. MJ is the greatest ever, Lebron James is a wannabe!
